Hidden inside an old industrial building in Kowloon East Kwun Tong is iVegetarian, a private kitchen that serves an 8-course meal for dinner. We settled in the spacious and cozy environment, sipping tea while waiting for our feast.
For starters, we were each served taster portions of crispy vegan barbeque pork, an interesting crunchy seaweed from Taiwan and fruits.
This was the special wood flavored tea that was served.
Next, a Cantonese-dish with lily bulb, asparagus and brown fungus. Not bad.
I like biting into a beancurd bag and figuring out what’s inside. The beancurd skin was savoury topped with vegetarian oyster sauce and filled with crunchy melon, mushroom and a surprise mochi. It looks tiny in the picture, but it’s actually quite generous serving, at least 3 times the size of that lonely broccoli! Satisfying.
A big fan of soup this is particularly nourishing filled with coin-sized walnuts and lots of goji-berry goodness. Wholesome.
An aerial view of my hearty Chinese tonic soup. Nom…
Succulent shitake mushroom braised and marinated with soy sauce complemented with a stalk of crunchy raw asparagus.
When it comes to crispy beancurd rolls, again it’s delicious but somewhat similar ingredient to the beancurd bag served earlier, just now fried. I particularly like that crunchy enoki mushroom in the corner.
Guess what’s inside this mini clay pot that serves one?
Tada! Heartwarming beancurd and asparagus rice.
Just to provide perspective on the size of that claypot rice. Although food coma for me at this point…
But there’s always room for dessert. An interesting jelly-like texture, supposed to have nourishing properties.
Ms. Ella Or, director at Ivegetarian was very friendly throughout our 8-course meal as she shares how each of the dishes were made and asked for our feeedback.
