The Herbivores, not to be confused with the ones in San Francisco, serves Western vegetarian dishes in Soho, Hong Kong.
I decided to spend a lazy afternoon having brunch at this cozy vegetarian eatery located on Staunton Street.
The weekend veggie brunch set at HK$128+ looked attractive. My friend opted for the omelette, which contains a variety of vegetables that she could attest was delicious. As you can see, most of the Herbivores cutlery are branded so you’re constantly reminded that you are a veggie eater.
I had the ‘Eggs Benedict’ set that came with a small spoonful of fresh salads and spinach with runny egg yolks topped with hollandaise sauce. Since it’s the veggie version, I think it should be called Egg Florentine. In any case, it was yummy and satisfying as they were generous with the spinach portions that are soft but not too overdone. The English muffins were lightly toasted too and the dish was sprinkled with herbs to look visually attractive.
In addition to coffee, we were served chocolate mousse sprinkled with orange slices and crunch flakes in a mini rectangular tin at the end of our mains. The choc dessert was rich enough but not too sweet that leaves you wanting more.
This is how Herbivores look from the outside. A large rectangular table sits in the heart of the restaurant giving a communal setting but you can still carry on having a private conversation with friends. The walls are covered with a colorful menu on chalkboards showcasing a variety of starters, mains, drinks, and lunch sets. Overall I would recommend Herbivores for vegetarians looking for a relaxing brunch on weekends.
