In the hustle and bustle of Jordan, Kowloon Union Church (KUC) Space is an oasis that offers delicious vegetarian/ vegan lunch sets.
The menu is different every day and I was lucky to catch them while they were serving Gado Gado, an Indonesian salad.
If you’re vegan, you can request not to have egg. The salad is made of boiled carrot chunks, cabbage, bean sprouts, and vegetable crackers topped with peanut sauce. It’s the first time I had such a wholesome gado gado rice set and my palate was beyond satisfaction.
The gado gado dish came with this mushroom soup as appetizer and all for the price of HK$45.
KUCSpace is located in a beautiful heritage building from the 1930’s.
This is how it looks when you step into the space, not the typical cramped restaurants where you’re encouraged to eat and leave.
While food is served to your seat, it’s pretty much self service so grab your own crockery and return your plates after you finish at the counter near the kitchen.
Apart from lunch sets, KUC Space also offers Fairtrade coffee, tea, and drinks with a selection of home-made cookies and cakes. They also strive to use organic products that are locally sourced in Hong Kong. After you finish your meal, make your payment in the black box on the right hand side of the calculator.
On another occasion, I had minestrone soup, the portion was so big it’s enough as a meal on its own!
However, I could not resist the Quiche Lorraine with chunky fried potatoes and zucchini, so I finished everything on this plate too.
A relaxing place to have lunch or catch up with friends over tea. Both times I went alone and felt so comfortable I stayed for a couple of hours.
The catch: KUC Space is only open Monday to Fridays from 10am to 6pm.
Address: 2 Jordan Road, Kowloon. (Get out of Jordan MTR exit B2, cross the road. It’s beside the Kowloon Union Church.
