If you look hard enough, there are many vegetarian restaurants or vegetarian friendly places in Manhattan. Here’s a few I visited and liked:
1. Cafe Blossom
I’m a fan of pastry wraps and this is filled with lots of root veggies – carrots, peas, turnips, sweet potato and rutabaga. Gives a rich and sourish but tasty flavor when dipped in white wine mustard cream sauce.

This is the Cafe Blossom on 466 Columbus Ave, around 10 minutes walk from the Museum of Natural History on Upper West Side. Love the chilled atmosphere and friendly waitress. Ordered sweet potatoes for side and portion is big or maybe that’s normal for American size. Love to visit again and try more dishes next time.
2. Terri Organic Vegetarian
Located near the Flatiron, Terri is a modern fast food restaurant serving healthy meatless food. The vegetarian chicken is tasty and has a chewy texture different from tofu. I love this wrap because it’s fusion done well as it includes ‘chicken’, thai peanut sauce, lettuce, carrots and mixed peppers.
Not as adventurous but definitely healthy and wholesome – can’t go wrong with hummus, avocado, smoked tofu, pepperoncinis, lettuce and tomato in a wrap. Refreshing and filling.
Beet salad ingredients sound interesting on the menu as not tried yellow beets before but can’t see it here as they are hidden. Salad includes baby arugala, walnuts and orange citronette dressing. However, it’s not freshly tossed as they’re pre-packed in the fridge but still tastes ok.
Teri Organic Vegetarian: 64 W, 23 Street New York.
Website says its food is 100% vegan and kosher.
Alfanoose is a Middle Eastern restaurant that offers a good selection of veggie options, thanks to my colleague Kate’s recommendation. Settled for a $10 lunch box – Foul Mudammas (top right corner)- fava beans, chick peas, tomato, parsley, lemon juice and olive oil and delicious vegetarian musaka (top left corner) plus lots of tomato barley pilaf.
Alfanoose: 8 Maiden Lane, between Broadway & Nassau
