If you want to feel the pulse of Hong Kong head on to Causeway Bay – one of the trendiest shopping district on Hong Kong island.
And right within Times Square, you can now suggest to friends a funky restaurant on the 11th floor of the Food Forum – SML.
What I really like about SML is as the name suggests, you get to choose what size the dish comes in – small, medium or large.
As its tagline says, “Democracy comes in 3 sizes”.
Since I personally prefer to try many different dishes but in small portions, this concept liberates me, particularly when it serves a good number of vegetarian options to keep veggie foodies happy.

I don’t usually like to order drinks but can’t resist SML baby – non-alcoholic strawberry Yakult yoghurt drink.
First, start your meal with a refreshing beetroot salad.
Sprinkled with ricotta cheese on top, the beetroot salad is a perfect starter to ready your palate for the main dishes.
Just before you dig into the main course, do try the eggplant parmesan that is topped with diced tomato sauce and parsley. It’s a cold dish that looks like a simplified version of a lasagne but it’s taste is comparable to an actual one.
Are you ready for the main dishes?
If you are a mushroom lover like me, this is a must try dish! Your olfactory senses will be aroused by the strong aroma of mushroom as the risotto arrives and once you tuck in, you’ll be able to taste the hints of truffle tickling your tongue.
Another tomato based dish, which tastes like potato but it’s actually made of corn meal mush. Apparently, Polenta is a popular comfort food from Italy and I’m not sure if this is an authentic dish but I like it!
If you love finger food, don’t forget to get at least a medium sized sea salt truffle fries. To be honest, I can’t really taste the truffle and personally think its a gimmick but it’s the kind of nibbly that keeps your mouth busy yet satisfied as you catch up on the latest gossip with friends.
To round off your meal, remember to order the panna cotta dessert. You’ll not regret the light, tangy after taste that lingers in your mouth as you leave the restaurant.
